Be a Part of History: Shelley Berkley's Ultimate Campaign Fundraiser!
Dear Friends and Supporters,
We are thrilled to extend this invitation to you for our biggest fundraising event of the campaign. Don’t miss out—RSVP today!
As we approach the November election, we want to express our deepest gratitude for the incredible support and endorsements Shelley Berkley has received throughout her campaign. Shelley's overwhelming primary victory is a testament to the strength of our community's backing, and we are profoundly thankful for each and every contribution.
Shelley's Proven Leadership:
Recently, Shelley concluded her tenure as the Senior Vice President of the Touro University system, following her role as CEO and Senior Provost of Touro University Western Division for over eight years. Prior to Touro, Shelley served Nevada in the United States House of Representatives from 1999 to 2013, becoming the first woman to represent the district and serving seven terms.
During her 14 years in Congress, Shelley made significant contributions on the Transportation Committee, Small Business Committee, Veterans Affairs Committee, Foreign Affairs Committee, and the powerful Ways and Means Committee (healthcare subcommittee). Among her proudest achievements was the establishment of the Veterans Administration medical complex in Southern Nevada, providing quality healthcare to our veterans. She also fervently supported increased funding for graduate medical education and advocated for healthcare reform.
Shelley was recognized as one of the strongest supporters of Israel in Congress, influencing every resolution, legislation, and debate affecting Israel and the Middle East.
Shelley's public service began in 1983 as a Nevada State Legislature assemblywoman. She championed consumer protection laws, fought against drunk driving, created the Senior Law Project, and authored the Lemon Law protecting new car owners. As a twice-elected member of the Nevada State Board of Regents, she worked to keep tuition costs low and helped establish the UNLV law school.
Before Congress, Shelley was an attorney for the Nevada State Commerce Department, in-house counsel for Southwest Gas Corporation, and Vice President for Government and Legal Affairs at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas.
Shelley is married to Dr. Larry Lehrner, a kidney specialist, and is the proud mother of two sons, Max, an attorney, and Sam, a territory manager for Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada, as well as two stepchildren, David, an IT specialist and Stephanie, a primary care physician.
Shelley was raised in Las Vegas, attended John C. Fremont JHS, Valley High School, and was the first in her family to attend college, graduating from UNLV in 1973 as student body president.
On the Issues:
Crime:
Shelley prioritizes public safety and will collaborate with Metro to ensure they have the necessary resources. She spearheaded a partnership providing medical trauma training to 4,000 Metro officers and the Engelstad Foundation. Shelley is dedicated to fostering community trust and respect in law enforcement through community policing efforts.
Affordable Housing:
Shelley is committed to providing stable, accessible, safe, energy-efficient, and affordable housing in Las Vegas.
Economic Growth:
Shelley will continue to promote smart growth, provide good-paying jobs, and support small businesses, the backbone of our economy. She has been a Board Member of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance and is actively involved with various Chambers of Commerce.
Homelessness:
Shelley is determined to address homelessness by promoting responsibility, accountability, and self-reliance to help individuals transition permanently out of homelessness.
Badlands:
As Mayor, Shelley will strive to find a fair solution that protects taxpayers and resolves the costly dispute for the benefit of Las Vegas.
